Anemia is caused when you don’t have enough strong red blood cells to carry the oxygen around the body – you will have heard the term low blood count – your body needs to have the right amount of red blood cells in order to function properly.
Symptoms for anemia are very similar to the symptoms of celiac disease and include the following:- pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, coldness and/or numbness in your hands and feet, lethargy, an irregular or speedy heartbeat, chest pains, cognitive difficulties and headaches.
It is possible therefore to easily believe that you may be anemic when you have these symptoms, as they are similar to the symptoms of celiac disease. This is not a good reason for going to see the doctor. There are tests which can be done to decide if you are anemic or indeed suffering from celiac disease.
It may also be a consideration if members of your family have suffered from symptoms of celiac disease. Has anyone in your family already been diagnosed with this disease? If this is the case, then there is a fair chance that you may well have the condition.
There are very good resources available on the Internet about the symptoms of celiac disease, and you should take the time to do a bit of research if you are confused. This information will not be a substitute for seeing the doctor, and you should make an appointment at the soonest opportunity.
In the meantime you should try to eat fresh foods, such as fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, also try to eat less process foods such as bread and cheese. It is a good idea to cut out wheat for a few weeks in order to see if your symptoms of celiac disease disappear. If the symptoms you have do not change or disappear then it is more than likely that you have are suffering from the disease and should make an appointment to see your doctor to discuss the symptoms of celiac disease further.
